Animated documentary - set making (fence)

To start I got the measurements of the birds characters from Ciara and made sure the fence would be slightly larger than then so that the proportions were realistic

I made each side equal measurement width wise and made sure there was room  for two birds length ways.

I then did the same for the post but making it slightly bigger.

for the diagonal post, I made it thinner depth wise as looking at images of fences these usually were thinner and to make it diagonal I found the correct angle it needed to be using the reference images I picked as a guid. and worked out the net for it.

I then photographed it in 16:9 format and saw that there was too much empty space in the images and decieded to make the fence longer by adding on more card. and I thought this then worked better.

For the hinge, I cut a strip of car and for where it would close, wrapped the card around a thick pen to create where the latch would be hooked in.

I then papier mache'd it all to build it up. and to create texture on the hinge I used tolilet paper and dapped the glue to stick it down with a brisly brush to create a rusty texture.

I then painted the whloe thing grey as a base colour, becuase the image had lots of colour in it, whites and browns and greys, so I tried to replicate this.

It took me a while to figure out how to create a wood texture, but after expeimenting with, thin brushed, the end of the brush, little paint, a cocktail stick.

I ended up apply paint really rough and scraping it on it a cocktail stick to create a wood like texture. and with the point of the stick, with black paint I drew on the wood groves.

I watered down brown paint and washed it over this when the back was dry and placed newspaper over so some parts would be removed, this was to add more colour and texture to the fence, and worked really well.

I then painted the hinge grey and dabbed on other colours such as white and light brown just to rust/mucky it up a bit so it looked worn.
